MEL/KM Manager

Kaizen is seeking a MEL/KM Manager to support the anticipated USAID/Guatemala Metrics Activity.

The Guatemala Metrics activity will provide support to the USAID/Guatemala Mission in three areas: 1) Evaluation Design, 2) Performance Monitoring, and 3) Learning and Adaptation. Metrics will enhance USAID/Guatemala’s systems for monitoring and evaluation and learning (MEL) and capacity for accountability and adaptation within projects and mechanisms.

The MEL/KM Manager will manage all work related to Task 3 of the program: Learning and Adaptation. S/he will facilitate communication across USAID/Guatemala to generate, integrate, and share knowledge and experiences that improve M&E practices among Mission staffs and implementing partners. S/he will synthesize the evidence base, lessons learned, and best practice findings into useful accessible information to cross-fertilize ideas and encourage proactive approaches to future opportunities. S/he will report to the Chief of Party. The MEL/KM Manager will supervise the Junior Communications Specialist.

This is a four-year assignment anticipated to start in January of 2018. This position is contingent upon award of contract.) The position is based in Guatemala with moderate domestic travel within the country.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate strong collaborative relationships among USAID and implementing partners focused on learning through improved capture, analysis, and communication of project information
  • Plan and facilitate knowledge sharing meetings and workshops as part of a Community of Practice, including helping to build collaborative capacity to support future activities
  • Coordinate all community events including roundtable discussions, on-site visits, and mentoring sessions and maintain a regularly updated calendar of these events
  • Analyze and communicate the findings from evaluations, assessments, and other sources for use in USAID project designs, communications, and reporting
  • Identify or develop and facilitate use of relevant dissemination and media channels to share project information with a variety of USAID/Guatemala project stakeholders
  • Monitor the integration of project best practices and lessons learned in USAID project design, communications, and reporting
  • Provide capacity building to USAID/Guatemala staff on knowledge management concepts, help identify knowledge gaps and better integrate project evidence into USAID project designs and M&E practices
  • Ensure all project work embraces the CLA approach of continuous learning through analysis of a wide variety of information and knowledge, making iterative improvements and course corrections
  • Synthesize and maintain a registry of evaluation recommendations in a format that is easily accessed by USAID/Guatemala staff and partners
  • Support planning and facilitation of reflection activities including annual Portfolio Reviews, After Action Reviews and Scenario Planning
  • Produce monthly reports detailing all program activities and events
  • Serve as The Kaizen Company’s representative in Guatemala for this specific effort
  • Liaise on a regular basis with Kaizen staff in Washington, DC.

Key Requirements:

  • Must be eligible to work in Guatemala
  • Bachelor's degree required in organizational development, communications, training, or other relevant areas (Master's preferred)
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in knowledge management or monitoring and evaluation with demonstrated experience in the application of information sharing to improve project design, implementation, evaluation and monitoring practices
  • Prior experience working on USAID projects
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in facilitating groups, meetings, and events (both online and in-person), resulting in collaborative decision-making, agreed upon action items/priorities, and strong outcomes
  • Experience managing teams (including staff, consultants, and subcontractors) and relationships (with the client, stakeholders, and colleagues) in a collaborative work environment
  • Excellent English and Spanish language skills (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
