Objective 
Kaizen seeks a Senior Communications Advisor for the USAID/Ethiopia Learning Analytics Activity who will manage and execute the overall strategic, operational, and technical aspects of the Marketing, Branding and Communications Plan for the Learning Project and Learning and Innovation HUB, ensuring that the organization’s message is consistently clear, compelling, and aligned with Mission values and priorities. This role will also integrate knowledge management initiatives into the communications strategy to enhance our overall impact, stakeholder engagement and community outreach. 

Key Responsibilities 

1. Strategic Communications  
  • Implement a comprehensive communications & marketing strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals, technical direction and mission objectives (e.g. Menu of Services; Learning Hub Website, Newsletters/Publications etc.) 
  • Work with senior technical leads to design, implement and maintain effective communications support for workplan priorities and initiatives (e.g. copy editing, infographics, and market synthesis)  
  • Oversee the creation and execution of strategic campaigns, messaging, and branding initiatives (Website content development, Manage monthly storyboards, podcasts, editorials, social media campaign, etc.) 

2. Marketing and Operational Management 
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the communications team, ensuring timely and effective execution of tasks and projects. 
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to enhance the organization’s visibility and engagement across various platforms. 
  • Supervise the work of young professionals and junior staff, particularly in operations, graphic design, and marketing initiatives, to ensure high-quality outputs. 
  • Oversee the production and dissemination of communication materials, including reports, newsletters, social media content, marketing campaigns, and other collateral. 

3. Technical Writing & Content Development  
  • Contribute to the technical writing and report generation including the development of specialized content and materials for key projects (e.g. program synthesis and report summary, Client highlights and staff spotlights). 
  • Provide expertise in crafting clear, compelling narratives that effectively communicate complex ideas and initiatives. 

4. Knowledge Management Integration 
  • Work closely with the Knowledge Management team to incorporate key insights and data into communications strategies. 
  • Develop and manage processes for effectively disseminating knowledge and best practices within the organization. 
  • Ensure that communications products reflect the latest knowledge and insights, driving informed decision-making and action. 
  • Support the integration of knowledge management into communications, ensuring that information is captured, shared, and utilized effectively across the organization. 

5. Team Leadership and Development 
  • Mentor and develop communications team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative working environment. 
  • Identify training needs and opportunities for professional development within the team. 
  • Lead regular team meetings to review progress, address challenges, and celebrate successes. 

6. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external communications inquiries and collaborations. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including partners, donors, and the media. 
  • Represent the organization at relevant events, conferences, and meetings. 

Qualifications 
  • At least 10+ years of communications experience, with a strong background in operational and technical roles. 
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic communications plans. 
  • Experience in knowledge management or a strong understanding of how to integrate knowledge into communications strategies. 
  • Excellent leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing team members. 
  • Strong writing, editing, and content creation skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a keen eye for detail and quality. 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) 
  • Successful implementation of the communications strategy, including measurable improvements in brand recognition and message alignment. 
  • Efficient management of the communications team, ensuring high levels of productivity and quality. 
  • Effective integration of knowledge management into communications, with clear processes for capturing and sharing insights. 
  • Positive feedback from senior leadership, team members, and key stakeholders on communications efforts and outputs. 

Reporting and Accountability 
  • The Senior Communications Advisor will report directly to Learning & Innovation Director.  
  • Regular updates on progress, challenges, and key developments will be expected, along with participation in leadership meetings.
